Saudi Organization Pushes Polygamy
A charity organization in the Saudi city of Yanbu' in western Saudi Arabia has drawn up a program encouraging men to take a second wife, with the aim of reducing the number of single women in the country.
In response, Saudi women's rights activist Wajeha Huwaidar published an article attacking the initiative, stating that the large number of single women in Saudi Arabia is due to the lack of opportunities for men and women to mingle, and also because girls' affairs are run by their fathers or brothers.

Alan NOTE: an Iranian government company with some 3,000 employees in the southern gas fields of Khuzestan, issued a similar order a couple of months ago ordering their employees of both genders to either get married or get fired. Ostensibly to reduce female coruption and prostituion in that area.

The mysterious death of an Egyptian billionaire whose body was found below his Mayfair flat just weeks after accusations that he had spied for Mossad is being investigated by a new team of murder detectives following complaints from family members that key evidence had disappeared.

Across the street from my building in Beirut, there’s a bakery that doubles as the local office of a Sunni political party.
Normally, the shebab — young men — spend all day and night roaring around the block on mopeds, or soaping and polishing their cars while playing thumping rap music. But one evening last May, while my wife and I were on a visit from New York, they were standing on the sidewalk with a hodgepodge of rifles and handguns.
One of them had put on a ski mask, which made his air of menace curiously abstract. When he hoisted his rifle, pretending to shoot, he held it from the waist like a child soldier in Liberia.

WASHINGTON — The Justice Department finalized on Friday an overhaul of rules that will give the Federal Bureau of Investigation freer rein to begin investigations into the possibility of terrorism, even without evidence of wrongdoing.
Attorney General Michael B. Mukasey approved the new guidelines after a review of several months that sought to consolidate different and sometimes conflicting standards within the F.B.I. that govern when agents can use informants, do undercover surveillance, interview witnesses or use other investigative techniques.

Vatican Attacks Democrats as 'a Party of Death'
An outspoken Vatican authority has issued a sharp rebuke of Democrats in the U.S., and party leaders Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden, over the abortion issue.
Former St. Louis Archbishop Raymond Burke, who was named prefect of theVatican's Supreme Court of the Apostolic Signature in June, told the Italiannewspaper Avvenire that the Democratic Party risked "transforming itself definitively into a party of death for its decisions on bioethical issues."

'Achmed the Dead Terrorist' Puppet Routine Against South African Ban

It's no laughing matter.
Funnyman ventriloquist Jeff Dunham is fuming after a ringtone advertisement based on his popular comedy skit, "Achmed the Dead Terrorist," was scrubbed from South African TV because it mocks Islam.
The ringtone was taken from a puppet routine performed by Dunham, a native Texan, in a TV special on Comedy Central. A 10-minute clip of the comedian's routine that was posted on YouTube has been viewed more than 66 million times since April.

Man beats wife until she is brain-dead

NAJRAN: Authorities in Najran are investigating a case where a man beat his wife until she became brain-dead. The daily Al-Madinah reported yesterday that the man beat his wife one day prior to Eid instead of presenting her with the season’s greetings. During the beating the woman choked on her tongue, which blocked oxygen to her brain. The woman is now in intensive care in a coma.
The technical affairs assistant at the Najran Red Crescent, Muhannad Al-Jarallah, said that they received a call the day before yesterday from a child reporting that his mother fell ill in the house and they had to move right away to the location. They performed first aid to the woman and then transferred her to King Khaled Hospital in Najran to receive medical treatment.
