NEWS ROUNDUP - WITH QUICK REFERENCE

CIA - the Agency has been plagued with poor management for 20 years.

Alan first hand note:

NOR ARE THEY OPEN TO RECRUITING OR TURNING FOREIGN AGENTS TO WORK FOR US. EVEN VERY SENIOR ONES WHO ARE VULNERABLE.

NOR DO THOSE , outside the agency, WHO COULD ASSIST WITH THIS HAVE ANYONE THEY CAN TRUST TO WHOM TO PROPOSE SUCH A PROJECT.

NOR TRUST THE CIA to not LEAK INFORMATION AND ENDANGER THE PERSON MAKING THE PROPOSAL.

Desk jockey careerists are all that are left behind as more and more "operationals" leave. Read below.

Information acquired by concerned AntiMullah volunteers as part of separate, non-CIA efforts, such as a top secret, openly concealed/disguised major communications center inside islamic iran, roughly about 2,000 computer size, remains unused as nobody at the CIA who could be trusted is approachable. For what it's worth the location inside a heavily populated neighborhood has snipers at multiple rooftops.

Equally ignored and without a trustworthy channel to the CIA is the information that could turn a very senior islamic intel bigwig to defect to us or to clandestinely work with us.

Sadly, the turf wars and territorial attitude among the intel and security agencies is that if THEY did not find it, it DOES NOT EXIST and so they do not want to be involved. Part of a CYA philosophy of the desk jockeys clinging to their table and corner rooms and a career.

CIA’s Loss of Top Spies ‘Catastrophic,’ Says Agency Veteran

Only a few months ago, Sam Faddis was running a CIA unit charged with preventing terrorists from getting nuclear, chemical and biological weapons.

Today, only 50, the equivalent of a full colonel at the top of his game, he has quit.

Scores more like him, Faddis says, spies with years of working the back alleys of the world, have walked away from the CIA’s Operations Directorate at the top of their careers, at a time when the agency needs their skills the most.

The directorate is losing “25 or 30 chiefs of station” — the top CIA representative in a country or major city — “or their equivalent” at headquarters, every six months, Faddis estimates.

That’s out of an estimated thousand or fewer case officers — the men and women who recruit and manage spies — worldwide.

CARACAS, Venezuela — As the price of oil roared to ever higher levels in recent years, the leaders of Venezuela, Iran and Russia muscled their way onto the world stage, using checkbook diplomacy and, on occasion, intimidation.

Now, plummeting oil prices are raising questions about whether the countries can sustain their spending — and their bids to challenge United States hegemony.
For all three nations, oil money was a means to an ideological end.

Iran's oil minister said on Tuesday there was a consensus to set up a "gas OPEC," after talks with his Qatari counterpart and the head of Russia's Gazprom.

Gazprom Chief Executive Alexei Miller told the same news conference: "We have decided to be in close contact and we can say that today a major gas troika was formed." Russia, Iran and Qatar are ranked the first, second and third biggest holders of natural gas reserves in the world.

Europe and the United States have warned against such a grouping, saying it could pose a danger to global energy security and create room for price manipulation.

ISLAMABAD, Asharq Al-Awsat - Despite the unusual media coverage given to stories that report on the presence of Arab fighters in Pakistani tribal areas, for the local tribesmen, the presence of Arab-Afghan militants remains a mystery.

Local tribesmen have also heard stories about Arab militants in tribal regions, but very few claim to have actually seen or met any fighters of Arab backgrounds.

Afghan journalism student sentenced to 20 years
Tuesday, October 21, 2008

KABUL, An Afghan appeals court overturned a death sentence Tuesday for a journalism student accused of blasphemy for asking questions in class about women's rights under Islam. But the judges still sentenced him to 20 years in prison.

The case against 24-year-old Parwez Kambakhsh, whose brother has angered Afghan warlords with his own writings, has come to symbolize Afghanistan's slide toward an ultraconservative view on religious and individual freedoms.

The Bankruptcy of Islamic Law

By Joseph Klein

Some Islamic leaders have loudly proclaimed that the current economic crisis proves the superiority of their religion and way of life over capitalism and liberal democracy. As usual they are in a complete state of denial about the moral, intellectual and economic bankruptcy of the fundamentalist world-view they hold which is rooted in Islamic law. Here are a couple of examples of their empty boasts.

Switzerland, a Possible Target of Islamist Terrorism?
OLIVIER GUITTA

Published: October 21, 2008
Once considered the safest country in Europe, if not the world, Switzerland is now a potential target of a terrorist attack. Why? In the past few months something has happened to this quiet and neutral country where outside of an occasional banking scandal nothing much went on; at least nothing that merited international focus.

Jihad and the ‘Reconciliation’ with Islamic Supremacism (Part One of Two)
Jeffrey Imm

American military leaders are calling for talks with the Islamic supremacist Taliban in Afghanistan, as part of some type of political "reconciliation" with Islamic supremacists in Afghanistan to promote "peace." Such military calls for "reconciliation" with Islamic supremacists in global theaters of war complement the increasing calls for "engagement" with Islamic supremacists by individuals in the counterterrorism and foreign policy communities.

Both groups use terms that sound appealing to an innately peace-loving America. However, such efforts at "reconciliation" and "engagement" are ultimately calls for surrender in the war of ideas against Islamic supremacists – by legitimizing the infiltration and influence of Islamic supremacists in dealing with Jihad.

A MASSIVE blackout left most of Venezuela without power today when a major electricity distribution line failed, officials said.

The outage, which began at 10.38am (2.08am AEDT Monday), has affected several million customers across broad swaths of the country, including in the capital, Caracas, where passengers in the underground subway were evacuated.

The blackout is the third major power failure to strike the oil-rich country in the last six months.

(Alan note: did we hear that islamic iranian engineers have been hired to establish a power grid in Venezuela? Perhaps they believe that an average outage of some four hours a day in islamic iran is the "norm" and are building that defect into Venezuela.)

Defeating Libel Terrorism

By Deborah Weiss

FrontPageMagazine.com Monday, October 20, 2008

There are many forms of terrorism, and violence is just one of them. The non-violent, incremental strategies used to achieve the Muslim Brotherhood’s goal to “sabotage the west from within” are more insidious and more likely to be successful than violence.

Though non-violent radicalism takes many forms, one of the most dangerous forms is the effort to stifle free speech through the use of foreign defamation law suits.
